Emergence of the Slim SMA Client

In the past week, both Radian6 and Sentiment Metrics have announced lightweight clients for their social media analysis platforms. (I'm calling it a slim client because thin client means something else.) The new applications are for users who need to work with SMA platforms but who don't need access to all of their features. It's not hard to imagine how this might lead to slim clients tailored to different needs, since the starting point is a dashboard environment that's already built from widgets.

Take a look; two announcements in one week suggests the start of a trend. Call it "SaaS meets client-server." :-)

Radian6: Engagement Console

Sentiment Metrics: SM Live

Both applications run on Adobe Air, like the popular Twitter client, TweetDeck (note the visual similarity with the Radian6 client). The Radian6 Engagement Console arrives in April; SM Live is due at the end of March.

Hey there Nathan,

Thanks for the coverage on the engagement console. Hoped I was going to run into you at SXSW but I guess it wasn't on the dance card. We've also thought of a name for this type of desktop app and in our case we felt social web client seemed appropriate - based on the fact the it was for monitoring and engagement across all social media type vs just Twitter. No matter what you call it I believe it is going to be a necessary part if the solution landscape based on the tremendous amount of feedback we've received since we announced it.

Hope to run into you again soon. Cheers. David

Yeah, it's kinda hard to run into me when I'm not there. Can't believe I missed AllHat again. :-)

Any other good event opportunities for my hat and guitar?

Hi Nathan - just thought of dropping a line that we at Whitevector also see the same development.

As the market develops there is a lot of companies out there who don't necessarily need a full blown analysis but a basic solution. We've also just launched a lighter product as well. As said - a start of a trend! tommi

Thanks for pointing this out Nathan, really interesting stuff. The social media monitoring space is a very hot topic.
