- 4 February - Digimind introduced CI Everywhere, a mobile client for their market intelligence platform.
- 29 January - WPP (NASDAQ: WPPGY) and Omniture (NASDAQ: OMTR) announced a partnership in which the companies will collaborate on technology development, data and information sharing, and consulting services. As part of the agreement, WPP is investing $25 million in Omniture. press release
- 5 February - Jodange released a new iGoogle gadget, Economic Recovery Pulse.
- Elections are a popular topic for demonstrations of social media analysis, but the Super Bowl happens every year. - Niraj Dube joins EmPower Research as vice president of sales for North America, and Gene Shippey joins as director of sales (East). Mr. Dube was previously regional head for 3i Infotech Inc. (press release). Shippey was previously director of business development at Agentrics LLC (press release).
- Techrigy's Connie Bensen has been named a 2009 Fellow of the Society for New Communications Research. Bensen's project will focus on social media monitoring, metrics, and best practices and standards. It's part of a collaboration between SNCR and the Web Analytics Association. press release

- MediaBadger released Atlantic Conversations (PDF), a report on social media usage in Atlantic Canada.
- The University of Minnesota Law School's William McGeveran has shared a draft of his article for the University of Illinois Law Review, Disclosure, Endorsement, and Identity in Social Marketing. In the article, McGeveran explores legal paradigms that might apply to these new marketing strategies and suggests a legal response to the changing environment. via Fred Stutzman
