Unexpected search engine placement

I see the strangest things in my web analytics. Specifically, the search terms people use that lead them to my site. Obviously, I'm happy that terms like "social media research" bring them here, since that's related to what I'm doing. But sometimes I wonder what people are thinking. It can be pretty clear that they're looking for something other than what they find here. The weird part is discovering how highly ranked my posts are for these unusual searches.
